Tourism Sector Performance Report

Egypt’s tourism sector is a major economic pillar experiencing strong post-pandemic recovery, welcoming a record 15.7 million international tourists in 2024. Yet, the sector continues to operate through legacy models, faces structural inefficiencies, and remains disconnected from Egypt’s digital transformation agenda. Tourism activity is concentrated in a few destinations, value chains are dominated by large operators, and startups, especially TourismTech, face barriers related to licensing, financing, data access, and visibility. The report presents a first-of-its-kind diagnostics and innovation strategy for Egypt’s tourism and TourismTech ecosystem, positioning technology as an engine for sustainable growth, job creation, enhanced visitor experience, environmental management, and greater industry competitiveness. While global markets have embraced TourismTech solutions, from smart bookings and logistics to immersive heritage platforms and destination analytics, Egypt’s ecosystem remains underdeveloped, with fewer than 15 active startups nationwide. Unlocking this potential will require structural reform, investment, and stronger integration between tourism and Egypt’s wider digital and entrepreneurial landscape.
